Sander Schimmelpenninck

SANDER SCHIMMELPENNINCK

Sander had been visiting Sweden for years to see his Swedish girlfriend, oyster fisher Lotta Klemming. In 2023, he finally made the big move to Gothenburg. ‘I got so many questions asking for tips, and I thought: there's an opportunity there.’ And so Travel.se was born, the modern interpretation of a travel agency.

WILLEMIJN DE GROOT

As Dutch people in a city like Gothenburg, you quickly bump into each other. That's how Willemijn, who moved to Sweden with her partner in 2022, joined the company. With no experience, but with a lot of enthusiasm and a good knowledge of the country, she launched Travel.se together with Sander.

LYNN KLEINJAN

Lynn soon joined in as well. She also decided to move from the Netherlands to Sweden in 2023. She has a background in biology, but quickly made the switch to Travel.se in Gothenburg. After her years of living here, she knows all too well the added value of good advice when discovering Sweden.

Travel.se expands into the German market!

Over the past few weeks, we at Travel.se have been working on a major and exciting step: our official expansion into the German market. Our goal has always been the same: to help travellers discover Sweden in an authentic, personalised and well-prepared way. Sweden is a vast country full of nature, tranquillity, local gems and small-scale accommodations that are often difficult to find without local knowledge. That's exactly where we come in.

The Swedish sauna: a tradition and lifestyle

The days are getting shorter, the air is getting colder and the first frost is already appearing. In Sweden, that means only one thing: sauna season is starting again. Whether you're sitting in a wooden cabin by the lake or in a modern spa in the city, the Swedish sauna is part of life here.

Truffles, berries and mushrooms in Sweden

Autumn in Sweden is magical. As the days grow shorter and the morning mist lingers in the forests, the landscape transforms into a palette of red, gold, and orange hues. The air smells of pine, moss, and damp leaves. The Swedes like to embrace this time of year, by taking advantage of what nature has to offer! This is the perfect time to fill your baskets with mushrooms, berries, and even truffles.

Hummer season on Sweden’s West Coast

Lobster season in Sweden has officially begun! From June to September (but mostly September), seafood lovers can enjoy freshly caught lobster in authentic coastal villages such as Smögen, Fjällbacka, and Grebbestad. For culinary travelers, this is the perfect time to plan an unforgettable (late) summer experience on Sweden’s west coast.

Celebrate Christmas and NYE in Sweden

Christmas and New Year's Eve in Sweden is a special time when traditional customs are important. On 24 December, Christmas Eve, Swedes celebrate the highlight of the festive season. They do so with an extensive julbord: a buffet of classic Swedish Christmas dishes. Houses and streets are beautifully lit with candles and Christmas decorations, and the whole country is transformed into an almost fairy-tale setting. New Year's Eve, on the other hand, is often intimate: many Swedes celebrate at home with family or friends. What this means for you as a tourist? We'll show you!
