HUMMER?

For those who may not know: “hummer” is the Swedish word for lobster - a large crustacean famous for its tender, juicy meat. Lobsters are caught in the cold, clear waters of the North Sea and the Baltic Sea. In Sweden, lobster has been considered a delicacy for centuries, and during lobster season they are at their very best: full of flavor and perfect for both traditional dishes and modern culinary creations.

LOBSTER SEASON: WHEN AND WHY

Sweden’s lobster season runs from June 1st to September 30th. During this time, lobsters are at their peak: tender, juicy, and full of flavor. Want to try your hand at lobster yourself? Here are some of our favorite (Swedish-inspired) recipes:

TRAVEL TIPS AND PRACTICAL INFO

Booking accommodations and restaurants in advance is recommended, as lobster season is one of the most popular times of the year on Sweden’s west coast. Beyond enjoying lobster, the region also offers plenty of activities for travelers: take a walk along the scenic archipelago, soak in breathtaking sea views, and taste local seafood along the way. The region is also very family-friendly; many hotels offer children’s activities and family accommodations, so even the youngest travelers, who might not yet be lobster fans, will have a fantastic time.
