Interested in ice-skating in Sweden? Together with our friends at BEAT Expeditions and local guide Christian, we’re offering the ultimate weekend in Falun. A place where winter is still truly winter. To take advantage of these conditions, we've set out to create your ideal ice-skating expedition. Think: fika, sauna, cross country skiing, snow shoe hiking, etc.

Day 1

After arriving at Stockholm Arlanda airport, a rental car will be waiting for you at Sixt Arlanda. You will drive to the city of Falun, where we will welcome you in your pitoresque red Swedish cottage.

After the check-in, we meet each other for the first coffee & fika. That’s when our guide Christian introduces himself, his team and the area. Afterwards we pick up the needed rental gear and head to the restaurant to kick-off the first evening!

Are you coming out for dinner with the group? Great! But if you’d rather do your own thing, that’s no problem either. We’ll give you some tips on our favourite restaurants in the area, and you’ll always have your own kitchen in your cottage.

Day 2

Our first day on the ice! Christian has been introduced and the gear is collected, so there is nothing left but to head to the ice. Based on weather conditions, you’re informed in the morning where we will skate that day.

Ice skating is demanding, and so is cold weather. So while you skate, we light the fire and prepare a wilderness lunch over the open fire. Ready for you to warm up whenever it’s needed!

After our first day on the ice, you are invited to enjoy a sauna on the lake and take a fresh dive into a hole in the ice.

Is the weather proving tricky again? Or are circumstances preventing you from going ice skating after all? If so, there are plenty of alternatives! We’ve got cross-country skis, snowshoes and cultural tips in the local area ready for you!

Day 3

After waking up early, you get ready the for day two on the ice. We will start just in front of our cottage and our guides will take us to the unbeaten tracks.

Depending on the weather, we will enjoy a typical Swedish wilderness lunch (warm) on an island, after which you can choose to join an introduction to the famous Swedish cross-country skiing, a unique snowshoe hike, or keep on ice skating.

Day 4

Our last day of the weekend. After checking out, we will enjoy one more morning of ice skating with our team and guides. Or perhaphs you fell in love with cross-country skiing or snow shoe walking and want to go for that?

During this morning, you can enjoy the beautiful surroundings of the lake one more time, after which we take our bags and go to Stockholm to catch the flights. Depending on the schedule, we can introduce you the Swedish Fika in Stockholm.

General informatiON

Travel period

Two weekends will be organised in 2027. Both weekends start on a Thursday (recommended arrival at Stockholm Arlanda Airport is by 12.00 at the latest) and end on a Sunday (recommended departure from Stockholm Arlanda Airport is by 17.00 at the earliest).

Weekend 1: 28 to 31 January 2027
Weekend 2: 11–14 February 2027

On the registration form, please indicate which weekend you wish to register for. If you are able to attend both, please select both options and we will allocate you a place (this increases your chances of being registered).

Travel group

This trip is for everyone. Some people come on their own, others with their father, mother, brother, sister or a group of friends. Each weekend we have a maximum of 18 participants, but the composition of the group varies every time.

We think it’s important that these weekends are accessible to everyone. All you need is a sporty mindset and a dose of enthusiasm. We work with experienced guides who are happy to take you on longer tours, but are just as happy to teach beginners the first tricks of the trade.

Transport

The weekend takes place in Falun, about a three-hour drive from Stockholm. Most travelers fly to Stockholm, where we arrange a rental car for you from the airport. You’ll use the car during the weekend and return it on Sunday before your return flight.

Pricing & Registration

The price for this weekend is €1395 per person. Find out below in the FAQ what's included.

Registration for the Skating Package is open from 14 September until 1 November. During this period, you can provide your preferences and availability. You will not be charged anything at this stage.

After 1 November, we will review all registrations and create the smartest possible arrangement. Travelling as a group, being available for both weekends, or being open to sharing accommodation gives us more flexibility and helps us fit in as many people as possible.

We ask you to register only if you genuinely intend to join us should we be able to confirm your registration.

CAN ACTIVITIES BE CANCELLED DUE TO THE WEATHER?

Please keep in mind that the weather in Dalarna can change quickly. In the event of extreme cold, strong winds, insufficient snow or other unfavorable conditions, an activity may be adjusted, rescheduled or cancelled. The local provider will determine whether an activity can safely go ahead.

If a booked activity is cancelled by the organizer, Travel.se will make every effort, as quickly as possible and at no additional cost, to reschedule the activity for another time or, if this is not possible, offer a suitable alternative.

WHAT CAN I EXPECT FROM THE WEATHER?

During the winter months, you can expect a true winter climate in Dalarna. There is usually snow, and temperatures are almost always below freezing.

In Falun, average temperatures in December, January and February are roughly between -15 °C and -4 °C, depending on the month. Actual temperatures can vary considerably depending on the location and the day.

We will inform you in advance about what clothing is advised for the activities with a packing list!

HOW DO I TRAVEL TO SWEDEN?

The weekend takes place in Falun in the Dalarna region. The easiest way to get here from abroad is to fly to Stockholm Arlanda Airport.

We will then arrange a hire car, which you can use to drive to Falun yourself in around 2.5 hours. Please ensure you are comfortable driving (including in snowy conditions).

The weekends start on Thursday. We recommend arriving at Stockholm Arlanda Airport by 12.00 at the latest. The weekends end on Sunday, with our recommended departure time from Stockholm Arlanda Airport being 17.00 at the earliest.

HOW DOES REGISTRATION WORK?

After 1 November, we will review all registrations and create the smartest possible arrangement. We will take into account factors such as the available weekends, the number of people per registration, and the possibility of sharing accommodation. If you are available for both weekends, this helps us accommodate as many people as possible.

Important: We therefore ask you to register only if you genuinely intend to join us if we are able to confirm your registration. If your registration is confirmed after 1 November, we expect you to honour the arrangements made and actually join us. By registering, you confirm that you have read the information above and agree to it.
