The trip takes place in Sälen, in the Dalarna region. Here you will stay in a personal hotel, outside the lively centre. The hotel is located in characteristic buildings with a history dating back to the beginning of the 17th century. Surrounded by beautiful mountain scenery. The rooms are spread across several buildings and are individually decorated with rustic details. A delicious breakfast and access to the sauna are included.

A trip becomes truly special with unique activities. And one of these is, of course, a dog sledding tour. Accompanied by a guide, you can drive your own sled: one of you drives the sled while the other enjoys the beautiful scenery from the sled. Halfway through, there is a stop at a mountain restaurant for a Swedish fika, and you can switch drivers. Afterwards, there is of course also plenty of time to cuddle with the dogs.

Accompanied by a guide, you will take a beautiful snowmobile tour through vast landscapes. The tour takes you above the tree line, where a nature reserve offers beautiful views over the mountains. This makes the tour an extra special nature experience.

Dinner in a mountain restaurant

Early in the evening, you will be picked up by a snowmobile sleigh that takes you to a cosy location in the mountains. In this charming restaurant, atmospherically lit by candles and an open fireplace, a delicious four-course dinner is served. At the end of the evening, the sleigh will take you back to the hotel.

A special winter activity. Together with a guide, you head into nature and take a walk through the deep snow. With snowshoes, you can get really close to the untouched wilderness, and with a little luck you may even spot some wildlife!

For experienced skiers, this activity offers a very special nature experience. During ski touring, you climb the mountain on skis together with a guide and then ski back down through the untouched snow. Along the way, the guide will teach you the different techniques.

General informatiON

Travelling period

Our recommended travel period for this holiday runs from the end of December through March. A tip is to book this trip in February or March, as the days are already getting longer during this period. In January, on the other hand, the area is a little quieter.

Travel party

This trip is recommended for couples, but can also be booked by solo travellers or families.

After receiving your request, we will look at the group composition and dates provided. Based on this, you will receive a personalised travel proposal with the corresponding price quotation.

Transport

For this trip, we recommend booking a return flight to and from Scandinavian Mountain Airport. From there, we will arrange a rental car for you to drive to the hotel in around half an hour. It is also possible to arrange a transfer to the hotel. For flexibility during your stay, however, we recommend a rental car.

Of course, it is also possible to travel by car (approximately 20 hours' driving from Utrecht) or to fly to another airport.

Please keep in mind that the weather in Dalarna can change quickly. In the event of extreme cold, strong winds, insufficient snow or other unfavorable conditions, an activity may be adjusted, rescheduled or cancelled. The local provider will determine whether an activity can safely go ahead.

If a booked activity is cancelled by the organizer, Travel.se will make every effort, as quickly as possible and at no additional cost, to reschedule the activity for another time or, if this is not possible, offer a suitable alternative.

WHAT CAN I EXPECT FROM THE WEATHER?

During the winter months, you can expect a true winter climate in Dalarna. There is usually snow, and temperatures are almost always below freezing.

In Sälen, average temperatures in December, January and February are roughly between -8 °C and -4 °C, depending on the month. January is usually the coldest month. During colder periods, temperatures can drop significantly further, with temperatures of -20 °C or lower possible. Actual temperatures can vary considerably depending on the location and the day.

For various winter activities, such as snowmobile tours and dog sledding, warm thermal clothing, a winter overall and suitable footwear are often provided. We will inform you in advance about what is provided for the booked activities and what you need to bring yourself.
