Accommodation | From cosy to exclusive

For this trip, we work with a range of accommodation options in Swedish Lapland. Depending on your preferences and budget, you can stay in a comfortable hotel, a traditional Swedish cottage or a unique lodge.

Some accommodation options are situated in or near a village, whilst others are completely surrounded by the Lapland wilderness. There are also options with additional facilities, such as a sauna, spa, jacuzzi or unique design.

When putting together your trip, we take into account factors such as your preferred location, level of comfort, the atmosphere and the facilities offered by the accommodation.

Optional activity | Dog sledding

A husky sledge ride is, of course, an essential part of any trip to Lapland. Climb aboard the sledge and let an enthusiastic team of huskies pull you through the wintry landscape. Depending on the excursion you choose, you can either drive the sledge yourself or simply sit back and relax. Afterwards, there’s time to get to know the dogs and warm up with a hot drink.

Optional activity | Snowmobile safari

Hop on a snowmobile and explore Lapland’s vast wilderness. Accompanied by a local guide, you’ll ride along snow-covered trails, through forests and across frozen lakes. For those looking for a bit more adventure, there are also more extensive safaris available.

Optional activity | Reindeer & Sami culture

Meet the reindeer of Lapland and find out more about traditional Sámi culture. Depending on the location, this could include, for example, a visit to a reindeer farm, a reindeer safari or a more in-depth visit to a Sámi community.

Optional activity | Northern Lights

One of the main highlights of a winter trip to Lapland is, of course, the Northern Lights. On a clear evening, the Northern Lights may appear above the snow-covered forests. Depending on the location and your preferences, we can arrange a special Northern Lights activity, such as an excursion by snowmobile, snowshoes or other means of transport.

Travelling period

In Swedish Lapland, proper winter usually begins in December. The period around Christmas and New Year is particularly atmospheric, whilst January and February often offer excellent conditions for winter activities. In March, the days get considerably longer and there is more daylight to enjoy the winter landscape.

The best time to visit depends on your preferences. Are you looking for a genuine Christmas experience, guaranteed snow, long days, or perhaps a good chance of seeing the Northern Lights? We’ll help you choose the right time to visit.

Please note: Lapland is a popular destination. It’s therefore a good idea to book this holiday a year in advance.

This trip is suitable for couples, families and small groups. When putting together the itinerary, we take into account the composition of your group, the ages of any children and your preferred activities.

Transport

Depending on your chosen accommodation, there are various ways to travel to Lapland. The most common route is to fly to Stockholm, followed by a short flight from Stockholm to a town in Lapland. On arrival in Lapland, we can organise your journey using a hire car or transfers.

The final tour price depends on factors such as the travel dates, group composition, transport option and any extras. The exact costs are therefore calculated on request.

The trip is tailored entirely to your preferences, travel group and budget. That is why the exact details vary from one itinerary to another.

The basic itinerary consists of one or more accommodation options in Swedish Lapland, to which various winter activities, meals and transport options can be added. These might include a dog sledge ride, a snowmobile safari, a reindeer experience, a snowshoe hike, ice fishing or a Northern Lights excursion.

Once we have received your enquiry, we will draw up a personalised travel proposal detailing exactly which accommodation, activities and transport options are included.

CAN ACTIVITIES BE CANCELLED DUE TO THE WEATHER?

Please keep in mind that the weather in Lapland can change quickly. In the event of extreme cold, strong winds, insufficient snow or other unfavorable conditions, an activity may be adjusted, rescheduled or cancelled. The local provider will determine whether an activity can safely go ahead.

If a booked activity is cancelled by the organizer, Travel.se will make every effort, as quickly as possible and at no additional cost, to reschedule the activity for another time or, if this is not possible, offer a suitable alternative.

WHAT CAN I EXPECT FROM THE WEATHER?

During the winter months, you can expect a proper winter climate in Swedish Lapland. There is usually snow on the ground and temperatures are almost exclusively below freezing; around Kiruna, average temperatures in December, January and February range roughly between -17 °C and -5 °C, depending on the month. January and February in particular are often very cold. In northern Lapland, temperatures of -30 °C or lower can occur. The actual temperature varies greatly depending on the location and the day.

For various winter activities, such as snowmobile tours and dog sledding, warm thermal clothing, a snowsuit and suitable footwear are often provided. We will let you know in advance what will be provided for the activities you have booked and what you need to bring with you.
